We will take a walk through the old Tokaido Seki-juku, which still has the remnants of the post town at that time, and visit the memorial hall of Daikokuya Kodayu, who opened the way to the opening of the country. Old Tokaido "Seki-juku"
A post town that prospered as a base for changing attendance and visiting Ise during the Edo period. Currently, most of the post stations on the former Tokaido are still old, but the townscape of that time still remains, so it has been selected as an important traditional buildings preservation district of the country.
Daikokuya Kodayu Memorial Museum
Daikokuya Kodayu, who saw Russia in a secluded world, is the main character of Yasushi Inoue's novel "Goroshiya Kokusui Yumetan." At the Daikokuya Kodayu Memorial Hall, various materials related to Kotayu are exhibited to introduce Kotayu.
Various materials related to Kodayu are exhibited, such as letters written by Kodayu in Petersburg, maps of Japan, copies of drifting notes, and replicas of relics.
Ise Katagami Museum "Old Terao Residence"
The Ise Paper Pattern Museum was opened in 1997 after restoring the house of the Terao Saibei family, which was one of the best paper pattern wholesalers in Shirako in the late Edo period.
The Terao family has been producing and selling Ise katagami since the Edo period, and the range of business has expanded from the Tohoku region to the entire Kanto region.
The Terao family residence is designated as a city historic site as a paper pattern-related merchant house and as a representative example of Machiya architecture. This historic building was donated by Mr. Shoichi Terao.
